The Second Best Hand Is the Worst Hand
30 June 2010
Any time that you sit at a poker table, you’re bound to hear a bunch of people complaining about the lousy value of their poker online hands. I can’t count the times that I’ve heard someone toss their cards in disgust and exclaim “I’ve gotten 7-2’s and 7-4 off suits all night long! I get the worst freaking hands!” Heck, I’ve said something along those lines more than once in my lifetime. The truth is, they’re not getting the worst hands. The fact that they’re still around to complain about it proves them wrong.
The worst hand at a poker table is never the one with the lowest value, like 7-2 unsuited. Those hands usually don’t cost you much more than the big blind. No, the worst hand you could possibly get in an online poker game is the second best hand. If you get 7-2 unsuited ten hands in a row, you’re a lot more likely to be at a table than a guy who gets pocket Jacks once when there’s a King on the board. A strong hand that’s been beaten is a lot harder to let go, and it’s almost always the one that will knock a player out.
