You do not have to sacrifice great taste to be good to your heart.
A more healthy diet doesn’t require that you give up fats entirely. You only need to restrict some of the ‘bad’ fats, especially saturated and trans fats. Trans fats, found in most commercial baked products and junk food, raise cholesterol levels, while other categories of fat may be excellent for your heart because they raise ‘good’ cholesterol. An excellent example is canola oil, which is totally full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat and omega-3 polyunsaturated fats. Canola oil contains the least cholesterol-raising saturated fats of all of the culinary oils-canola oil has half of the saturated fat of olive oil.
Canola oil contains 0 trans fats and is high in vitamin E. Its low smoke point makes it a smart choice for sauting and its mild flavour permits the flavour of other ingredients to polish thru. The oil also works rather well in marinades, keeping food wet and delicious, and is great in vinaigrettes.
