Men’s Swimwear
14 May 2009
There are many varieties and styles of mens swimwear available. They generally fall into three categories: speedos, swim shorts, and board shorts. These go from shortest to longest, and usually will reflect the wearer’s age and fashion sense based on which one they choose to wear. As fashion changes go, swimwear has had a much slower, more gradual change over time. These three styles have been around for years and have not significantly altered the mens swimwear market.
Speedos are generally not worn any more and are not in style. They are more commonly found by professional swimmers and divers at sporting events. They are not the swimwear of choice at pools and beaches, although may still be seen at some European locations.
Swim shorts are longer and baggier, but still hit about mid-thigh. They may have a netted lining and drawstring for added comfort and protection. These are more commonly found on today’s beaches, but are still generally considered to be worn by older men.
Mens board shorts are the longest and newest of the styles. They gained popularity in surfing cultures. They are worn around the hips and usually have velcro and drawstring enclosures. This style is favoured by younger men in today’s society, not just for surfing fans.
