A successful business owner, whether in e-commerce or a mom and pop
store, has usually found some way to be of service to their customer.
Not only does helping your customer build and strengthen your customer
relationships but it also can truly help your customers meet their
goals. Free downloads or freebies is just a digital manifestation of
what business pioneers have long ago understood. Helping your customer
is good business!

The files you offer that are related to your service or industry can do
many things for your online business. It can increase your visibility
to a target base, make your site memorable, and it can potentially
increase your site’s traffic. For instance, a programmer may offer free
open-source applications to potential customers (which many of them do)
in hopes the visitors will share the application (more traffic or
visibility), and ultimately the visitors will return to the site when
they want to customize or enhance the program. Consumers are more
likely to buy from someone with whom they have already built a
relationship.

Free downloads can vary from e-books, templates of various kinds,
software, screensavers, or others. To make each download effective, you
have to let others know they are available. There are many sites
dedicated to offering freebies. Submit your download or a link to your
download page to those sites. Use your favorite search engine to gather
a listing of these freebie sites.

It may seem obvious, but don’t forget to include references to your
product or service and your site address within your download.

You should see dramatic increase in your traffic but not just to the
download page. Many visitors will become genuinely interested in your
company and what you to have offer. Keep you site updated and offer
incentives to those who download in your freebies. In addition to
obtaining traffic, you should see an increase in your contact database
and new business. So continuously submit your freebie links to other
sites and eventually your efforts will pay off.

The need to advertise on the Internet has produced some interesting advertising sites that promise free traffic to your website. The general idea is that you submit your site and in exchange for traffic, you open your web browser to a specified page and view other websites. There is usually a timer that automatically loads a new web page or you have to click on a symbol after the time has expired and a new page will load. By doing this, some sites claim to be able to send you thousands of free visitors.

Now for the catch…

The problem with these sites is the quality of the websites you’re being sent to and in turn the quality of the visitors to your website. While there are many websites that do actually offer something you may want, many of the sites are simply those advertising some new MLM scheme or some new paid-to-surf program. The quality of the websites for these reasons is extremely poor. The quality of the visitors is equally as poor because most are probably not sitting around all day watching websites in the case of those automatically loaded or spending quality time on any given website. The goal is to get traffic and the only way to do that is to move to the next site as quickly as possible. Do you really want visitors that aren’t really interested in your product? Visitors that aren’t taking a good look at a site that you have put time and energy into?

While free advertising sounds good and if you can get good quality traffic to your site with free advertising, then it’s a good way to go. However, the costs may be greater in the long run than simply finding a good reputable advertiser that will send you the quality traffic you need to create a successful online business.

Everyone now wants good organic search results for their business. There are many factors in this equation for online success. In this paper I will be covering ways of gaining more inbound links. The importance of the websites linking to you. The quality of your inbound links as well as some link building tools that you can use on your own.

Gaining more inbound links.

Link popularity is one of the ways search engines determine how much of a authority you are on the Internet. Think of a website linking to you as a vote. The more votes you have the more popular you are. It is not only that a website is linking to you, but also the importance of the website linking to you.

What do I mean by this?

If I have whitehouse.gov linking to me, this is huge. If I also have mom and pops dairy store linking to me this does not carry as much weight with the search engines. Its like saying “I have a letter of recommendation from the President of the United States” versus saying “Joe at the tire shop sent me.” Do you see my point?

The goal is to find quality link partners.

One method of doing this is using Google. For instance when I research on the Internet and want to find out who is linking to a particular site I type this into the Google search field:

Type this: link:www.examplewebsite.com
Then hit ENTER

Google responds to my query with something similat to this:

Results 1 - 10 of about 15 for link: www.examplewebsite.com

Then Google will list all the websites linking to www.examplewebsite.com!

Why is this beneficial? You can analyze what links your competiton has. I then create an Excel workbook and get usefull information from there sites like email addresses and contact information and then send them a email asking if they would like to exchange links. With my website information.

Nine time out of ten the answer is yes. As I was saying earlier look for quality links, quality sites and websites related to your field.

You can also purchase links online from several companies. If you visit their website you can see that purchasing links with a high PR value can be expensive.

What is PR value? This is how Google calculates the importance of the website. There are hudreds of variables they use to calculate this value.

Just do a search on Google for “purchasing links”

There are several tools availiable online to help you automate this process, some can even recommend more link partners for you!

The above steps if followed correctly will result in more trafic to your website and better rankings over time. Dont give up.

Good luck with your link building campaigns!
