Benadryl Plus is available from your pharmacists in capsule form. It contains two active ingredients.
Acrivastine:
This ingredient controls your allergies by blocking the action of chemical called histamine. This is produced by your body and forms part of its defence mechanism. When your body is brought into contact with a foreign substance such as flower pollen its mast cells are stimulated. When this happens they release their stores of histamine. A chain reaction then occurs and it is that results your allergy symptoms. These can take the form of an inflammation of the nose, eyes, skin or nasal passageways. You may also experience itchy watery eyes, a runny nose, sneezing and nasal congestion.
Because Acrivastine does not enter your brain in significant quantities it rarely causes drowsiness. This makes Benadryl Plus the perfect choice if you need relief from your allergies but still need to get on with your day.
Pseudoephedrine:
This is a decongestant. It works upon the parts of your body known as alpha receptors. When these receptors are stimulated by the pseudoephedrine they act upon your blood vessels, causing them to narrow. This will decrease the amount of fluid that can travel through them. The result is that less fluid is pushed out into the linings of your nose and sinuses. Benadryl Plus reduces the production of mucous. This will relieve your blocked nose that was triggered by the allergic reaction.
As with all medicines, please ensure that you read and follow the advice on the packet of Benadryl Plus. Do not exceed the stated dosage and, should symptoms persist, see your Doctor.
