An Amazing Poker Hand
2 September 2010
I was playing a No Limit Texas hold em poker game at a poker casino recently when I almost witnessed one of the most amazing hands of all time. An Everest Poker player with a short stack went all in with a Q-10 of spades. One person called, and he had pocket aces. So naturally, you figure it’s pretty much all but over for the small stack. the flop comes out A-J-2, with the ace being a spade. Nothing out of the ordinary going on so far. Well, the turn then comes out another jack, this time the jack of spades. Now with the small stack having a royal flush draw, the tension is ratcheted up slightly more in at the table. We all watch with anticipation to see the river and wouldn’t you know the nine of spades shows up! The fellow missed the royal flush by one digit. Needless to say, it was an exciting moment, and it got me to wondering if I will ever get a royal flush while playing poker. Heck, I’ve never even seen a royal flush at any table I’ve played at. The approximate of odds of getting a royal flush are about 31,000-1 in Hold Em. It’s conceivable that any of us can go our whole poker playing lives without seeing one, much less getting one.
