Our Best Option

It’s becoming increasingly clear that one of the biggest hurdles in getting people on board for joining the Euro is undoubtedly convincing the British public that perhaps it isn’t such a bad idea as they think. This attitude is reflected in that of a large segment of leading figures such as Peter Sutherland who believe that perhaps joining the Euro would be a sensible decision. In the somber crisis-ridden last days of peace before the first World War commenced, the British Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey, was repeatedly pressed by his French and Russian colleagues to state, categorically that the United Kingdom would remain faithful to its Entente with the French and warn Germany that war with England was indeed an inevitability. Each time Grey skillfullykept up his room for manoeuvre and resisted the pressure. All the way up until August 1st he could adamantly maintain that London could not leave neutrality “for the simple reason that public opinion would not sanction any other course”. At the Cabinet meeting that Sunday, a clear majority were against any involvement in the looming conflict. Both the City, many of whose prominent bankers were of German stock, and a large proportion of the media were against engagement. Grey kept his freedom of action right up until the last.
But the end was immanent. Four days later London had commenced with Germany. However shocking the present financial crisis, it is on a smaller scale, thankfully, than 1914 but the question arises as to whether British pragmatism responding to dramatic events might not be capable of engineering a similar volte-face; to be precise the embrace of British Euro membership after years of anti Euro sentiment from the self appointed representatives of Angleterre Profonde. As was the case in July 1914 there is no political motivation for European engagement at any level of any of the three main parties. A collective ambivalence towards the Euro worn at times heavily on the sleeve extends its deadening embrace which universal amongst all political parties. As history has time and time again told us, this does not necessarily means opinions can’t change. I for one believe that it is precisely that change of attitude which could play a major role in determining the future of Great Britain. Indeed it is vitally important that people do become more open to the idea of joining the Euro, and realize that rather than something to be feared it could in fact be our saving grace.
Tips to Maintain your Website to Keep Visitors Coming Back
30 January 2009
When you design a website you should create it so that your visitors are constantly coming back for more. In order for you to keep your visitors coming back you need to keep up with maintaining your website, and offering things that will keep your visitors busy.
Tip #1
Keep your visitors coming back. Well, how do you do this? You can start by creating a forum. This will allow your visitors to interact with each other and meet new people.
Next you may want to create a page, or a topic on your forum based on new content that you add. This will keep your visitors up to date on what your doing around your website.
Also you may want to create a news letter. A news letter could contain many things. You can write tips and tricks articles, you can use it to tell your visitors what’s new on your website, you can offer special deals, and much more with a newsletter.
Tip #2
Build a strong network of incoming links. Incoming links are a very important object in the search engine game. If you don’t constantly increase the number of links coming into your website you will start to loose your high ranks on search engines. Or you may not even be able to obtain high ranks if you are just starting out.
When you start getting incoming links you should create some way to keep track of these websites. Document them somehow in a word document, on a webpage, or in a excel document. Check back on these links regularly to make sure they still have your link on their webpage especially if your linking back to their website.
Tip #3
Monitor your website statistics. This should be a thing you do on a weekly basis. Find a company that will either give you a report on who’s visiting your website, and where. Or use your exhisting hosting companies service (if they offer one).
When monitoring your statistics you want to see where your visitors are going the most. Try and use these statistics to your advantage. If they are going to your article directory more than they are your forum you will want to spend more time increasing your article directory rather than monitoring your forums.

7 Powerful Tips on Creating Good Content for Your Website
30 January 2009
So what is all the talk about having a lot of “content” on my website? And what is “content” exactly? And how will it help my business grow and prosper? I get these questions from my internet students all of the time. Let me say this…Having a lot of great content is one of the key ingredients to those websites that are successful and profitable.
Once I explain the value of content to my students they almost always chime back with “but I can’t write!” Never fear, there is always an answer for the creative mind.
1. Don’t Like to Write – Find Those that Do
One of the simplest solutions if you don’t like to write is to find those that do.
Where? Elance.com is a good place to start. They have all kinds of writers that write on all subjects. Sign up for an account and post a job. Try to be as specific as possible as to your writing needs. For example, topic, style, word count and so on. You will receive back bids from a numbers of authors. Read what they have to say and read their sample works. A little tip: if you go with the cheapest guy on the block, you will probably get poor work. So it is better to at least go middle of the road in terms of pricing. Expect to pay a minimum of $15 an article for about 400 words or so. Another little tip is to give 2 authors the same project and see which one produces the better work.
2. Press Release – Hear all About It!
There is a fine company called PRWeb.com that will distribute your press releases. It’s not free and depending upon what kind of “contribution” you want to make, it will cost anywhere from $10 to $80. The key here is to study their website and learn. A Press release is not a sales letter and they post guidelines and even have a teleconference to let you know how to get the most out of your press release campaign. I highly recommend it. I would recommend doing a $10 press release to get started as a way of walking before you run. The first time I used the service I made a few blunders unknowingly and was glad I hadn’t spent the $80! This tool can be invaluable to get your information out to thousands of resources with your website address on it.
3. OPA – Other People’s Articles
You can go to any number of article directories and use their articles for FREE. But remember to use the author’s resource box at the end of the article or you are violating copyright laws. A resource box has the author’s name, small bio and their website address. Go to Google, type in ‘Article Directories’ and a whole slew of them will appear. I like to go with the better known ones that have quality content. I have all of my articles at tops directories like www.articlecity.com and www.ezinearticles.com. Those are two good resources and of course, there are about two dozen more or so. Most article directories are organized by subject matter or expert authors and you can do your searches quite easily. If you find an author you really enjoy, it would be wise for you to make contact with them. Let them know you would like to be on their update list when they produce new articles.
4. Clubs, Organizations and Trade Magazines
Let’s say that you need content for your gardening website that specializes in perennial gardens. There are probably thousands of gardening clubs, organizations and trade magazines that have newsletters or materials you can reprint. Contact them and let them know you are looking for quality articles, newsletters, tips, secrets, ideas on perennial gardens. You might just be surprised how much information they would be willing to share as long as you give them credit for their work and publish their website address in return.
5. Start a Blog – Never-ending content
Try blogspot.com and set up your free blogger on your website. If you don’t know how to do it, just get your favorite webmaster to set it up. It isn’t that complicated but it can be invaluable. You can get it going by making your own posts. You can share your own information like ” 3 Easy ways to keep your gardens bug free this summer” or you may have read something in a magazine that says ” Ortho has come out with Zappit bug spray that will keep your gardens beautiful all summer long…I have used it and here is what I found that maybe useful to you.” You can comment, question, inform on a blog. Keep your blog useful and people will come to visit and hopefully contribute regularly.
6. Testimonials – Why people should do business with you?
The more testimonials you can get the better. You may have to offer an incentive for people to take the time to write you a testimonial longer than a sentence or two. Let’s say you sell custom made cowboy hats. You know people love them because they come back and buy more than one. You could offer an incentive such as “If you love our cowboy hats, we would love to hear about it. When we receive your letter telling us why you love our hats so much, we will send you a coupon for 20% off your next hat purchase.” And then you have a testimonials section flooded with letters from your customers. If you can scan them in so people can see the originals, all the better for credibility.
7. Reviews – Your opinion counts!
Let’s say you sell high end power tools to the custom furniture builder. You could write reviews on the different products pointing out the positive and negative features. Trade journals in this field probably have reviews of products as well and the companies who manufacture them. You can re-word them to fit accordingly. Or better yet, if you have used the tools, you are skilled enough to let people know what features are great and why they should buy it.
Hopefully, you now understand how to get great content on your site without picking up a pen or pounding away on the keyboard. Our next article will discuss why content is so important and how it can help you with your search engine rankings and ultimately result in sales.

Multiple Sclerosis – What is Multiple Sclerosis?
30 January 2009
Scientists are still researching the genetic side of Multiple Sclerosis, because certain ethnic groups do and do not get Multiple Sclerosis. For instance, Eskimos, Gypsies and African Bantu never develop Multiple Sclerosis, and Asians, North and South American natives very rarely get the disease. There are strong links between family members and Multiple Sclerosis. The chance of developing Multiple Sclerosis increases greatly if an immediate family member has the disease.
Though researchers know that genetics have a lot to do with Multiple Sclerosis, still other researchers believe that the disease is caused or at lease triggered by environmental factors. It is possible that patients have the gene that triggers the immune system attack, and that all of this could be caused to begin by an environmental factor taking place. This theory could account for why certain ethnic groups do and do not get Multiple Sclerosis.
Multiple Sclerosis ranges in severity, from fairly minimal to very debilitating. There are a variety of treatments for Multiple Sclerosis, including various prescription drugs that have recently been developed. Though these medicines cannot completely cure Multiple Sclerosis, they do help to minimize the debilitating symptoms that Multiple Sclerosis causes. Among the most popular of these Multiple Sclerosis treatment drugs are Avonex and Betaseron. These drugs help patients to have better immune system functioning, and they can lessen the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis for many years.

When A Parent Is Deployed
30 January 2009
When a parent is deployed with the military it can be very traumatic for the children left behind. Having things for them
to do, that makes them feel a part of the family and helping the parent who is gone, is really important.
Here is a list of things you can plan that should help ease the pain of having mom or dad gone.
We all have happy and sad feelings about our parent leaving. It is important that we talk about them with our families. Have the child (children) make two lists. One with YOUR HAPPY FEELINGS and one with YOUR SAD FEELINGS. Sit down and discuss these lists and explain the feelings that they don’t understand or answer questions.
Get a map and place it on the wall and show the kids where mom or dad has gone. They can stick a pin in it or place a small flag on the map. They might get a sheet of stickers and put them where the parent is, where they are, where the grandparents are, etc.
Get the kids a tablet with lined paper and show them how to write letters to the parent. Here they can also use stickers and draw pictures.
Make a list of things that kids can do to cheer the family up like: do some chores, write letters, sing a song they wrote,
tell their best joke and add your ideas to the list.
You might want to take a calendar and mark special days and holidays that will be happening while the parent is gone.
If the child (children) are old enough to write, suggest they keep a journal (buy them a book to write in). Then when
the parent comes home they can share the journal with the parent. That gets the parent caught up on events and thoughts the kids had while they were gone. Another thing you could do is tear out the page and send it to the parent each week.
You might have a cookout and invite other friends whose mom or dad is also deployed. You could also invite a new family that just moved into the neighborhood.
If you have a major holiday, i.e., Thanksgiving, while the parent is gone, turn on the tape recorder during the dinner so
mom or dad can hear the conversations. Have the kids make a list of all the food that you had to eat. Take lots of
pictures to send. Have everyone say a special message to the parent.
Have the kids write a poem and send it. Have the kids make a secret code, write a message in the code and send both to the parent. Another neat letter to send would be made of words cut from the newspaper or magazines.
Take pictures of important events: new haircuts, birthdays, parties, etc. Let the kids take pictures. Have them take
pictures of the family pets and tell a story to go along with the pictures.
Always remind the child that whether it is mom or dad that is at home or away….they are always a family.

Pay per click or search engine optimization, which one should you use? Many view PPC marketing as a colossal waste of money while others disdain search engine optimization. In reality, the two marketing strategies form a perfect marriage.
Pay-Per-Click – PPC
PPC marketing is a love it or hate platform. For the “love it” crowd, PPC marketing is a way to get instant exposure and feedback on site designs. In a matter of minutes, you can start receiving traffic and adjusting your site to convert the traffic at the best rate possible. For those in the “hate it” crowd, bids are to high and one never knows how may of the clicks are fake and worthless.
Search Engine Optimization – SEO
As with PPC, seo marketing has its proponents and detractors. Those who love it look at the free traffic and glorious profitability of a site that converts the traffic at a decent rate. Detractors view seo as an unnecessary waste of time since it can take a year or more to get high rankings, particularly on Google. Detractors also argue that high listings are subject to changes in the search engine ranking process, which means you can lose your rankings.
So, who is right? In truth, both sides make accurate arguments. PPC is expensive and click fraud is a monstrous problem. Seo produces free traffic, but it takes along time to get to the top and rankings are subject to the whims of search engine ranking changes. The truth, of course, is both marketing platforms should be used whenever possible.
Marketing Marriage
Every site is unique, but most should combine PPC and seo marketing as part of an overall internet marketing strategy. When starting out, the PPC campaign is critical for getting immediate traffic and tweaking the site to maximize conversions. At the same time, a seo campaign should be undertaken. As the site rises in search results, the PPC campaign should be fazed out for the relevant high listings.
PPC and seo marketing are not mutually exclusive. When married together as part of an overall marketing strategy, both platforms will deliver the goods.

Recipes with Rosemary
26 January 2009
Rosemary is one of my favourite herbs – its clean, spiky scent pervading my kitchen takes me to the South of France on a warm summer’s day. It is the hardiest plant in my herb garden, surviving our driest summers and putting out new growth as soon as the winter rains begin. You can pick from it all year round and it has useful medicinal properties too.
I love Roast Lamb with generous amounts of rosemary and garlic tucked underneath as it cooks or else I take Nigella Lawson’s advice and mince the garlic and rosemary to a paste with some olive oil and tuck it into small incisions in the meat before cooking. After that the meat just cooks itself (as long as you remember to switch on the oven for it!) and you have a marvellous Sunday lunch for very little effort. A dash of red wine added to the juices from the roasting dish and warmed through gives you a ‘jus’ that any five star restaurant would be proud to own – do spoon off the excess fat first though. For a totally low effort lunch serve the roast lamb with a generous green salad and boiled new potatoes, or expend the effort you’ve saved with the meat on producing loads of crispy roast potatoes, baked butternut squash and tender green peas.
The following pasta sauce recipe came from experimenting with a recipe from Marcella Hazan’s Marcella’s Kitchen. To her tomato and rosemary pasta sauce I added some tuna to create a nutritious and delicious meal for my kids – the balsamic vinegar gives a mellow, rounded note to the sauce and is not in the least overpowering as I thought it might be.
Penne with Tuna, Tomato, Rosemary and Balsamic Vinegar
For 450g/1lb pasta
8 tablespoons olive oil
3 or 4 cloves garlic
2 sprigs rosemary
450g/1lb tinned tomatoes, drained and chopped
2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
1 tin of tuna drained
Put the olive oil, thinly sliced garlic and rosemary sprigs in a frying pan over a medium heat. When the garlic starts sizzling add the tomatoes, with salt and pepper and cook for 10-12 minutes.
When the pasta is just cooked – really al dente – drain and put back in the pan and toss with the sauce over the heat for 1 minute. Add the tuna, stir, then off the heat stir in the balsamic vinegar and serve immediately.
There is a wonderful recipe for a Rosemary Cake in Nigella Lawson’s book ‘Feast’. She allocates it to her Funeral Feast section. as rosemary has always been the herb of rememberance, but this cake is great for any occasion when a light, not too sweet, plain sponge is required. It has apple in it too and the combination of that and the rosemary, gives a moist but aromatic cake. A long sprig of rosemary adorns the top of the cake and as it cooks releases more aromatic oils into the cake. Try it.
To make use of rosemary’s health boosting properties try a cup of rosemary herbal tea. One sprig with a cup of boiling water poured over it and left to stand for five to ten minutes, makes a revitalising and stress-relieving tea. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and aids circulation, helps with stress, anxiety and depression and improves memory and concentration. It also is a useful source of easily absorbed calcium, far more effective than taking pills.
So plant a rosemary bush in your garden or in a pot on a balcony for your own free, energy-boosting calcium supplement!

Picnic Tables Available – No Reservations Required
26 January 2009
One of the greatest social events ever dreamed up, a picnic is a combination of food, family, friends, recreation, entertainment, and merriment. At the first sign of spring, people begin firing up their grills and taking their meals outdoors, and they don’t go back inside until the world freezes over once again. In fact, there are some year-round, die-hard barbecuers who won’t quit unless someplace much larger and hotter freezes over, too.
Although the summer is filled with picnics, little is generally known about how and where they originated. Listed as a new word, “pique-nique” first appeared in the 1692 edition of Origines de la Langue Franoise de Ménage. It is believed to have been a combination of “piquer,” meaning to “pick” or “peck” and “nique,” an obsolete word, which meant “trifle” or “little pieces.” It was described as a potluck gathering, to which everyone brought a dish, and the food, transported in the first picnic baskets, was set out for all to “peck at.”
The word “picnic” was first introduced in English in 1748. In the 19th century, a group of wealthy Londoners formed the Picnic Society to promote this fashionable social affair, to which each attendee was expected to bring food, as well as contribute some form of entertainment. It was around the middle of the century when it became associated with the outdoors, and the first picnic blankets appeared. Its rapid rise in popularity soon led to the invention of the picnic table.
Today, a picnic can be anything from a casual meal on the porch, with paper plates and plastic forks, to a formal picnic lunch, with gourmet food served on good china. It can be a large gathering at a park, or a cozy lunch for two on a picnic blanket in a scenic spot. A picnic can be a grand affair, planned or months – perhaps even catered – or a spontaneous move outdoors to enjoy the weather. No matter how differently they may be defined, however, everyone agrees that picnics are fun!
Like the picnic itself, the picnic table has undergone many transformations. With porches, decks, and patios becoming more elaborate every year, and backyard gazebos popping up in record numbers, outdoor entertaining has reached new heights. Beyond barbecues, people are hosting dinners, formal parties, and even weddings in their own backyards. In order to accommodate these diverse uses, picnic tables have been created in a variety of sizes, styles, shapes, colors, and materials, to fit any occasion.
Besides the classic, rustic-looking cedar, oak, and pine tables, there are elegant dining sets, sometimes made from cherry or teak. Other tables are constructed from virtually indestructible aluminum, thermo-plastic, vinyl, and polywood. These are the tables you’ll find lining hospital grounds, industrial parks, office complexes, and college campuses. They can be rectangular, hexagonal, octagonal, square, round, or oval, with benches attached or detached.
Indeed, there are as many versions of picnic tables as there are of picnics. To see the entire range of exciting possibilities, visit AllPicnicTables.com, a division of CedarStore.com. If you don’t find the perfect picnic table, they’ll be happy to customize one for you! For more information, call 888-293-2339, or e-mail contact@allpicnictables.com.
Miracles Always Happen Under A Tent ( A Gazebo Or A Canopy)!
26 January 2009
As a young boy, the sight of a big tent in the open field at the edge of the city where I lived would bring shouts of joy. The big giant tent rising like a mega structure that wasn’t even there barely 24 hours ago would now assumed the porportions of a new metropolis, a world of itself where the little kids and their parents would be entertained by those laughing clowns, and those big elephants, and the tigers….and so miracles always happen to little boys and girls when they see a giant tent which we now call the Big Top – the circus place.
As an adolescent, and while in college, the sight of the Big Tent seemed less and less….and one day, I saw a big tent again in the open field at the edge of the city. It was a plain looking canvas tent, like a large canopy, and a big sign board on the ground declared ” Roy Durman, Travelling Evangelist from Canada”. That night, the parking grounds were full, thousands of people thronged the grounds where the tent was, filling the tent to the brim and with hundreds more waiting outside the tent. It was a sight to behold …people who were in need of prayer, the sick and the lame, the blind, the deaf and the aged and feeble…these were the people who were there for prayer. The next day, it was in the newspapers that many received their healing. Yes, miracles do happen under a tent!
Now, we do not see these big tents anymore in the city grounds, and so my heart would jump a beat or two whenever I see a smaller canopy or a smaller gazebo or a canvas tent anywhere in the backyard of a house in the city.
Unlike the mono color of the giant big top of the circus or the travelling evangelist, I now see open walled gazebos, 4 walls gazebos and 8 walls gazebos and tents with attractive sunny colors that will draw your attention a long distance away, often with some bright slogans or advertising a company.
There under these tents, canopies and gazebos we see instant exhibitions, mini trade fairs, wedding receptions, temporary sign up counters for some events, recruitment drives and promotional desks.
Tents, canopies and gazebos do really make things happen!
Now, as an adult, I found whenever I need some extra space in the outdoors or in the backyard, a gazebo, a canopy or a tent is the perfect solution to my too-hot, too- sunny, too-uncomfortable deck or patio. With a new gazebo or tent or canopy, my deck or patio has become my favorite “outdoor living space” in my house!
Beneath the protection of a gazebo, friends can gather, families can relax and business associates can meet. Close fellowship has been fostered, relationships have been mended, rapport has been established between friends and acquaintances. Creating a special place has never been this easy with a gazebo, tent or canopy.
Yes, at this time and age, miracles of fellowship, of gathering and association still do happen under a tent!
Have you found your miracle of fellowship under a gazebo, a tent or canopy yet?
Peter Lim likes the outdoors and shares about enjoying time under a tent or canopy at http://tents.revenuemonitor.biz and http://canopy.revenuemonitor.biz
